Bird Song
With Ambient Sound
5 CD Set

The bird sounds of this production represent 15 years of recordings. Of the 165 species identified within the study site, only 6 to 11 at the most could be considered permanent species. The rest were mainly nesting birds, migrants or transients.

There was no need to travel afar in search of birds to record; the birds did the travelling. Some of them came thousands of miles from the south in spring; they Sandhill Craneflew from Texas, Mexico, Panama, Venezuela, and Brazil. Then in the fall or winter others arrived from the north, from the boreal forest and the tundra.

Each species whose song was captured successfully on tape has been included. The identity of some of the unseen vocalists could not be established with certainly. They share, however, in importance with the known species for they, too, visited or lived in this part of central North America.

This collection features 412 selections from 122 species of birds. There are songs, calls, duets, imitations, interactions and fledglings. Included is a 30-page booklet: a guide to identifying the calls, with background information on most of the recordings.
